Inflatable Amusement Device Guide For Ride Owners & Operators
In Oklahoma, inflatable amusement devices (e.g., bounce houses, slides, obstacle courses) are regulated as amusement rides by the Oklahoma Department of Labor (ODOL).
NEW for 2025: Registration and inspection fees have been reduced to just $1 per inflatable.
Requirements for Owners/Operators
Annual Registration & Inspection
Registration Validity: January 1–December 31
Annual ODOL Inspection Required: Must be conducted before operation each year
Schedule Inspections 72 Hours in Advance
Fees (Effective 2025)
Inflatable Registration: $1 per device
Inflatable Inspection: $1 per device
Insurance Requirements
Minimum $1,000,000 liability insurance
ODOL must be listed as the certificate holder
Submit proof annually
Operational & Safety Guidelines
Daily Operations
Conduct and document daily inspections
Maintain records for at least 3 years
Post clear rider responsibility signage
Use blowers that meet safety standards with properly rated electrical equipment
Anchoring & Setup
Devices must be securely anchored using stakes, weights, or sandbags
Follow ASTM or manufacturer’s anchoring specs — whichever is more stringent
ASTM F2374 Compliance is a Requirement
Standard for Commercial Inflatable Safety Includes:
Design & Construction – Fire-resistant, multiple air chambers, safe exits
Anchoring – Specific stake lengths, burial depth, etc.
Operation & Supervision – Trained attendants, minimum staff levels
Weather Rules – Shut down in storms/high winds (15–25 mph max)
Inspection & Maintenance – Daily logs, recordkeeping
Emergency Plans – Evacuation, injury, failure procedures
Deflation Alerts & Impact Mats – Required for devices over 8 ft high
Inflatable Amusement Ride Devices include:
Bounce houses
Dry & wet inflatable slides
Obstacle courses & climbing walls
Interactive games (jousting, boxing rings, etc.)
Inflatable mazes & combo units
Zorb Balls (Note: Fully enclosed Zorb Balls without tracks are prohibited)
Exempt Devices:
Water-based inflatables (designed for use on/in water)
- Toy-grade inflatables used strictly for private, non-commercial home use
Incident Reporting
Report immediately to ODOL if:
A significant injury or fatality occurs
- There's a mechanical failure
(Device must remain closed until cleared by ODOL)
