Educational Audit Program & CME Credit
At the beginning of 2025 OSBOE launched an educational audit program.
This program is intended to be a joint effort between OSBOE and physicians and works to ensure all parties have current knowledge of statutory regulations and best practices to avoid potential violations.
Over the course of the year, 36 audits have been completed.
During the December 11, 2025 Board Meeting, the Board authorized the use of a completed educational audit to meet the annual proper prescribing CME requirement. Board staff will work with you to ensure that is reported to CE Broker.
Some other benefits observed include the below:
- Physicians receive a comprehensive packet that includes up-to-date policies, mid-level practitioner agreement and samples of EMR templates.
- Assistance with creating custom templates for EMR or office policies, if needed.
- Areas of concern can be corrected before they become a potential disciplinary or liability issue.
- Physicians receive a point of contact for regulatory questions.
Information on this program has been added to the website. To visit and learn more, please click here.
SB1066 - OMMA
OSBOE has received the following message from OMMA regarding a statutory change effective January 1, 2026. If you recommend medical marijuana in Oklahoma, or plan to, please read this message in its entirety.
Those who do recommend must follow Policy OSBOE-P011 on Medical Marijuana: Click Here to Read
Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, per SB 1066 (2025), physicians will be required to complete medical marijuana education and register with OMMA before providing medical marijuana recommendations to patients/OMMA applicants.
Physicians who are not registered with OMMA by Jan. 1 cannot legally recommend medical marijuana to patients. All recommendations issued by unregistered physicians on or after Jan. 1 will not be accepted. Physicians can find a list of approved courses and the registration form on OMMA’s Physicians webpage. Registration is valid for a year from submission, not from approval. Recommendation forms issued within 30 days of Jan. 1 remain valid for their full 30-day period.
A Voluntary Registered Physicians List will be published on OMMA’s Physicians webpage on Jan. 1; physicians who chose not to be listed are encouraged to confirm their OMMA registration status with patients.
Under state law, a physician is qualified to sign a physician recommendation form only when all the following requirements are met:
- The physician is in good standing with the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision, the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners or the State Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners.
- The physician adheres to accepted standards a reasonable and prudent physician would follow when recommending any medication to a patient.
- The physician is not located at the same physical address of a dispensary (including virtual appointments with patients who are at a dispensary).
- The physician is registered with OMMA beginning Jan. 1, 2026, and has completed and submitted medical marijuana education requirements for recommending physicians.
For any questions or additional assistance, please contact OMMA.
