OMES Human Capital Management completed its second annual Oklahoma State Employee Engagement Survey in late 2020, and the results are in. The confidential survey lets Oklahoma state employees voice their feelings about many aspects of their jobs and workplace culture. The resulting OKSEES Statewide Summary Report compiles thousands of responses to show how those feelings have changed, for better or worse, from previous years.
OMES HCM Workforce Planning Manager Derek Neidig said the OKSEES gives state and agency leadership direct feedback about workplace culture, which influences the state’s success.
“The Oklahoma State Employee Engagement Survey gives insights about our strengths as an employer as well as areas for improving employee engagement,” Neidig said. “Highly engaged employees provide better service and higher productivity.”
According to the 2020 OKSEES Statewide Summary Report, 736 OMES employees participated in the 2020 survey, a slight increase from 2019. OMES ranked highest among large agencies in employee satisfaction and engagement, earning Rank 1 in employee satisfaction and tying with the Department of Transportation for Rank 1 in employee engagement.
The key drivers of OMES employee engagement in 2020 concerned the ability to meet career goals at the agency, teamwork and cooperation, autonomy, caring executive leadership and understanding how one’s role contributes to agency goals.
“We are proud to have the opportunity to enable the state's workforce to provide feedback about their experience working at their respective agencies and to communicate their needs to leadership,” Neidig said. “As our workplaces evolve, our workplace leaders need to be aware of changing employee needs to foster an engaging environment for everyone serving in Oklahoma government.”
