Monday, July 31, 2023

Tomorrow marks a pivotal moment for the town of Shawnee as the Red Rock Behavioral Health Services Shawnee Crisis Unit/Urgent Recovery Center is unveiled. This facility represents a significant milestone in the provision of mental health care for all Oklahomans, bringing mental health resources to an area that previously had no crisis recovery center nearby.

Commissioner Carrie Slatton-Hodges of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services expressed her optimism and hope, stating, "This is an encouraging moment for the town of Shawnee. Here, we gather together to discuss a critical step forward on the path to providing mental health care to those who are in crisis."

The establishment of this state-of-the-art facility addresses the pressing need for immediate access to mental health treatment in Pottawatomie County and Lincoln County. Commissioner Slatton-Hodges acknowledged the challenges faced by the community, stating, "People lacked immediate access to the treatment they desperately needed. We are celebrating the establishment of this beautiful facility. It stands as a testament to our collective dedication to foster change and provide care for all."

The Red Rock organization, renowned for its exceptional staff and nurses, has played a pivotal role in making this endeavor a reality. Commissioner Slatton-Hodges expressed her gratitude, saying, "Let us take a moment to express our profound gratitude to Red Rock, a remarkable organization filled with exceptional staff and nurses. Their unwavering support to mental health has been the driving force behind this significant endeavor."

The Shawnee Crisis Unit/Urgent Recovery Center is not just a physical building; it represents a beacon of hope for individuals facing mental health crises. Commissioner Slatton-Hodges emphasized, "In this center, we will create a safe space, a sanctuary where individuals can find solace and understanding. A place where compassionate professionals will listen, support, and guide those seeking help without judgment."

ODMHSAS would like to extend an open invitation to the entire community, encouraging open conversations about mental health and breaking down the barriers associated with stigma and fear. Commissioner Slatton-Hodges urged, "Let us talk openly about mental health, reaching out to those in need and letting them know they are not alone. Together, we can raise awareness about the resources available, including Oklahoma's 988 Mental Health Lifeline, connecting individuals to treatment and support."

The Red Rock Behavioral Health Services Shawnee Crisis Unit/Urgent Recovery Center represents the strength, care, and resilience of the Shawnee community. It is a testament to the collective commitment to mental health and the power of compassion and understanding. Commissioner Slatton-Hodges concluded, "Together, we will be the light that shines brightly in the darkest moments and guide those in distress towards the path of recovery and renewal."

The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services cordially invites all media members to attend the unveiling ceremony of the Red Rock Behavioral Health Services Shawnee Crisis Unit/Urgent Recovery Center on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 10 AM.
