Training
New Charter Applicant Training
In accordance with Title 70 Section 3-134, individuals seeking to establish a charter school or virtual charter school are required to complete up to ten (10) hours of training offered by the Statewide Charter School Board. This training will focus on the process and requirements for establishing a charter school or virtual charter school. Training shall be completed prior to applying with any Oklahoma charter school authorizer. Authorizer/Sponsor Training
Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, each charter school and virtual charter school authorizer shall designate a representative to complete the Statewide Charter School Board annual authorizer/sponsor workshop. This workshop shall include, but not be limited to, information regarding the Oklahoma Charter School Act, charter school governance, Internal Revenue Service rules for nonprofits, and school finance laws. Governing Board Training
Pursuant to 70 O.S. § 5-110, newly elected/appointed charter school and virtual charter school governing board members are required to participate in at least twelve (12) hours of training within fifteen (15) months after the date of election/appointment. Incumbent school governing board members with no break in service are required to complete at least six (6) hours of training within fifteen (15) months after the date of reelection/reappointment.
Training hours shall be in the areas of school finance, legal issues, and the ethics, duties, and responsibilities of district board of education members. At least one (1) hour of instruction shall be in school finance, one (1) hour in the Oklahoma open Records Act and the Open Meeting Act and one (1) hour of instruction in ethics.
The Statewide Charter School Board provides the training offerings listed below to the charter schools and virtual charter schools it authorizes.
