Competitive Highway Bridge Program (CHBP)

The Competitive Highway Bridge Program (CHBP) is related to discretionary grant applications for federal funds appropriated in 2018, where $225 million was designated to be awarded by USDOT for a competitive highway bridge program. A total of 25 states are eligible applicants, based on population density of less than 100 individuals per square mile. The funds must be used for bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects on public roads that demonstrate cost savings by bundling multiple road and highway bridge projects. The FHWA will distribute these funds as described in this notice on a competitive basis in a manner consistent with the selection criteria.
