OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Broadband Office (OBO) is celebrating the completion of two broadband expansion projects by Pioneer Telephone Cooperative that are bringing fiber-optic internet service to homes and businesses in and around the towns of Lindsay and Waurika.
The projects were funded through the American Rescue Plan Act Capital Projects Fund (ARPA CPF). Pioneer received approximately $448,000 for the two projects, which will provide high-speed fiber-optic broadband service to 86 homes and businesses.
With construction complete, residents and businesses within the project areas will have access to reliable, high-speed internet infrastructure designed to support work, education, health care and other essential online services. Residents can see which internet providers serve their home or business by typing in their address on the Internet Availability Map.
“Projects like these demonstrate the impact that targeted broadband investments can have in Oklahoma communities,” said Mike Sanders, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Broadband Office. “We appreciate Pioneer’s partnership and their work to expand reliable fiber-optic service in rural Jefferson and Garvin counties.”
The Oklahoma Legislature created the Oklahoma Broadband Office in 2022 to ensure that at least 95% of Oklahomans have access to high-speed internet.
In 2024, the OBO awarded projects from both the ARPA State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund and Capital Projects Fund programs. The OBO continues to work with broadband providers across the state to complete federally funded infrastructure projects and fulfill its legislative mandate.
