Privacy and Security

The Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) is committed to protecting privacy while providing secure and accessible online services. ODL is also committed to being transparent about how information is collected and used when its websites are accessed. This page explains the information that may be automatically collected during a website visit, how that information is used, and the measures ODL takes to help protect its online services.

When an ODL website is visited, limited information is automatically collected, such as:

• The date and time of the visit.
• The pages viewed.
• The website that referred the visitor to the site.
• General information about website usage and performance.

This information is used to evaluate website performance, improve accessibility and content, identify technical issues, maintain website security, and better understand how ODL websites are used. The information is analyzed in aggregate and is not used by ODL to identify individual visitors.

ODL websites use cookies and similar technologies to support website functionality, measure website usage, and improve online services.

Analytics and website improvement services are used to measure website traffic, evaluate website performance, improve accessibility, identify technical issues, and enhance the overall user experience. Information collected through these services is analyzed in aggregate and is not used by ODL to identify individual visitors.

Some ODL webpages include content or services provided by third parties, such as embedded videos or interactive maps. These third-party services operate under their own privacy policies and may use cookies or similar technologies.

Most web browsers provide settings that allow cookies to be viewed, managed, or disabled. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of some website features.

Some ODL websites allow visitors to voluntarily submit information through contact forms, email, newsletter subscriptions, surveys, event registrations, or other online services.

Information submitted through these services is used only to respond to the request, provide the requested service, or fulfill the purpose for which the information was submitted, unless disclosure is required by law.

Information submitted to ODL may be subject to the Oklahoma Open Records Act unless otherwise protected by state or federal law.

ODL employs reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to help protect information maintained through its websites. ODL websites use encrypted connections (HTTPS) to help protect information transmitted online.

While reasonable measures are taken to safeguard information, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Unauthorized attempts to upload information, alter website content, or otherwise interfere with ODL websites are prohibited and may be subject to applicable state and federal laws.

ODL websites may include links to websites operated by other public agencies, organizations, or private entities. Once a visitor leaves an ODL website, the privacy and security policies of the external website apply.

ODL is not responsible for the privacy practices, security, or content of external websites and does not necessarily endorse the information, products, or services they provide.
