For-Hire Motor Carrier of Passengers (MCP): 15+ Passengers

Bus means any motor vehicle designed, constructed, and/or used for the transportation of passengers, including taxicabs.

Charter transportation of passengers means transportation, using a bus, of a group of persons who pursuant to a common purpose, under a single contract, at a fixed charge for the motor vehicle, have acquired the exclusive use of the motor vehicle to travel together under an itinerary either specified in advance or modified after having left the place of origin.

For-hire motor carrier means a person engaged in the transportation of goods or passengers for compensation.

For-Hire MCP is basically the transportation of passengers for a commercial purpose where the motor carrier is compensated, either directly or indirectly, and is generally available to the public at large. Examples includes: intercity bus lines such as Greyhound, charter buses and canoe rental companies.

For-Hire MCP must comply with the FMCSRs as listed below:

Part 395: All applies -        Hours of Service of Drivers

Part 396: All applies -        Inspection, Repair, and Maintenance

Note: Oklahoma State Law Title 47 os 12-407(b) requires all for-hire passenger carriers whose vehicle is designed to transport 10 or more passengers carry at least 1 hand axe, and one metal heavy-duty, ten-unit size, first-aid kit.
