Fake Calls from Dental Board and DEA
The Oklahoma Board of Dentistry has received multiple reports from OK Dentists about a potential scammer. According to these dentists, the scammer stated he was with the Board of Dentistry and the caller ID even read Board of Dentistry. The scammers, who were all male with foreign accents, told the dentists they were "under investigation" and asked them to call another number, or in at least one instance, transferred the call to another person supposedly working for the FBI. In another instance, the scammer provided the dentist with a poor attempt at an official looking document that contained a former Board president's name and signature.
The document read that the dentist's license was suspended and he needed to surrender his license to a law enforcement agency. Thankfully, all the dentists that we've heard from did recognize the scam and no confidential data was breached, nor money lost. It is unclear what the scammers want, but the Board would like you to know an investigation would never be handled this way. It is possible that a Board investigator would call and inquire about something, but never in the case of a Board investigation or to suspend a license. Please call the Board at (405) 522-4844 with any questions or concerns.
