Excellence Starts Here
Oklahoma ranks first in the nation for K–12 aerospace education — and the Department is investing to keep it there.
Aerospace and aviation education is one of the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautic’s top priorities. Since FY2001, the Department has provided $7.5 million in aerospace and education funding to organizations and programs throughout the state. Just within the last 5 years alone, the Department has awarded over $3.4 million in education grants.
There is nothing more important that we do here at the Department than to encourage young people to consider aerospace or aviation as a career when they finish their post-secondary education. The Department’s aerospace and aviation education funding supports the Oklahoma Works initiative that aims to address the skills gap and connect students to programs that will help build Oklahoma’s aerospace and aviation workforce.

High Wage Careers, Close to Home
Aerospace offers careers in every Oklahoma county — from airframe and powerplant technicians to engineers and pilots.
Many of these careers start with a certificate or two-year program at an Oklahoma CareerTech center or college, while others lead through a four-year engineering degree or flight training. Employers across the state are hiring, and the Department works with schools and industry to connect students with internships, mentors and their first job.
