State Aviation License Plate Marks Fifth Year

Thursday, June 24, 2021

In celebration of the state’s second-largest economic engine, aviation and aerospace, a new Oklahoma specialty license plate was introduced five years ago during the 2017 legislative session.

The plate is the state’s official aviation and aerospace specialty plate. Proceeds from the plate are expended by the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission for airport construction and rehabilitation programs, providing financial support for aviation education programs to address the need for a skilled and competent aviation workforce, and general operations of the agency.

The plate was designed by Oklahoma artist Christopher Nick. Nick agreed to design and paint the specialty plate, volunteering his research time which involved more than two months of work.

“We want to remind motorists that they can purchase the aviation and aerospace specialty plate and have it personalized or pre-numbered. The proceeds benefit several important missions including the funding of our Aerospace and Aviation Education Grant Program which helps fund everything from the AOPA ‘You Can Fly’ Program to aviation summer camps for students,” said State Director of Aeronautics Grayson Ardies.

The special interest plate is titled Oklahoma Aviation and is $40.00 for the initial tag and $36.55 for renewal. The form to purchase the place may be found here.
