OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA) is proud to announce Xochitl Santiago as the November 2025 Aerospace Student of the Month. This recognition celebrates Santiago’s exceptional personal growth, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the aviation field.

A high school junior at Putnam City West High School, Santiago is a member of the Putnam City Aviation program and serves as a Platoon Sergeant and color guard member in the school’s Army Junior ROTC program. She was nominated by her aviation teacher, Sam Madewell, who praised her “growth mindset” and her commitment to leadership and service.

“Since joining our program two years ago, Xochitl’s passion has grown tremendously,” said Madewell. “She embraces every challenge with enthusiasm, actively seeks growth opportunities, and consistently sets an example for others to follow.”

This summer, Santiago was selected for one of three competitive new student intern positions at AAR Corp, working as an Aircraft Mechanic Intern. She quickly developed a passion for hands-on structural and interior work, where her positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic set her apart.

After graduation, Santiago plans to enlist in the Marine Corps to work on fixed-wing fighter aircraft. In her downtime, Santiago enjoys drawing, walking, and spending time with family and friends.

“It is inspiring to see a student demonstrate such initiative,” said Paula Kedy, ODAA Statewide Aerospace STEM education manager. “Xochitl's plan to enlist in the Marine Corps perfectly aligns with the discipline and work ethic she has already shown. She is an outstanding example for young women considering careers in aviation maintenance and military service.”
