Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport Breaks Ground on $6.9 Million Terminal and Apron Expansion
By Laura Rudicel
GUTHRIE, Okla. — Federal, state, and local leaders gathered Thursday at Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport to break ground on a $6.9 million terminal and apron expansion. The project will bring a modern 5,500-square-foot terminal and 150,000 square feet of additional concrete aircraft apron space to support airport activity and future growth.
The $6,928,824 project is supported by $5,998,209 in congressionally designated federal funding, $465,307 from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA), and $465,307 from the local airport sponsor. ODAA is covering half of the required nonfederal project share.
“It was an honor to join local leaders to celebrate the expansion of the Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport,” said U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Bice. “I was proud to secure the $6 million in federal funding for this project, which will double the terminal space, provide additional aircraft parking, and improve airport amenities. This is another great example of bringing taxpayer dollars back to Oklahoma to support the important work already being done in our communities.”
ODAA’s participation reflects its continued investment in Oklahoma’s public airport system, helping communities improve critical facilities while leveraging federal and local funding.
“Regional airports are vital to Oklahoma’s economy because they connect businesses and communities to opportunities across the state and beyond,” said Grayson Ardies, executive director of ODAA. “This investment gives Guthrie-Edmond the terminal and airfield capacity to better serve aviation activity today while preparing for future development.”
According to the newly released ODAA 2026 Aerospace and Defense Economic Impact Study, Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport supports 216 jobs, $12,770,790 in payroll, and $24,453,204 in spending, generating a total annual economic impact of $37,223,994.
“An airport is often the front door to a community, and first impressions matter,” said State Senator Charles Hall. “For businesses considering where to invest, the facilities and infrastructure they encounter can say a great deal about a community’s commitment to growth. This new terminal will give Guthrie a stronger first impression while opening the door to new economic opportunities across the region.”
The new terminal will double the size of the existing facility, which was originally constructed as part of an aircraft hangar in 2001. Plans include a passenger waiting area, a 24-hour accessible pilot lounge, flight-planning rooms, classroom and meeting space, and airport and fixed-base operator (FBO) offices. The expanded apron will provide additional room for aircraft parking and maneuvering, with related access, pedestrian, utility, and site improvements. Construction is expected to be completed in November 2027.
“Our existing terminal has served the airport for many years, but our needs have grown,” said Caden Young, director of Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport. “A larger terminal, 24-hour pilot lounge, and expanded apron will make a meaningful difference for the pilots, passengers, and businesses who use Guthrie-Edmond. Additionally, we plan to utilize the terminals conference space as a classroom for our summer aviation program.”
The project comes amid broader legislative support for airport development. In May 2026, the Oklahoma Aerospace and Aeronautics Commission approved ODAA’s $520 million, five-year Airport Construction Program, encompassing 176 infrastructure projects statewide. Legislative appropriations have also included $100.35 million in Progressing Rural Economic Prosperity (PREP) funding for airport development in FY 2023. Those statewide funding figures are distinct from the Guthrie-Edmond project’s awarded funding.
“The Oklahoma Legislature has prioritized strategic investments in airport infrastructure, including more than $100 million in PREP funding to strengthen and modernize airports statewide,” said State Representative Nicole Miller, chair of the House Appropriations and Budget Subcommittee on Transportation. “Since 2025, we have also committed $12 million annually to the Airport Infrastructure Growth Program to leverage additional dollars for critical improvements. The Edmond-Guthrie Regional Airport is a great example of these investments at work, with the state providing half of the required nonfederal match. Through strong state, federal, and local partnerships, we are strengthening aviation infrastructure, supporting economic development, and creating opportunities for future growth.”
