“False Fix” Focuses on the Connection Between Nicotine Use and Teen Mental Health

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 25, 2026) — Tobacco Stops With me, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), launched “Talk About Tobacco - False Fix”, a new statewide campaign focused on the connection between teen mental health and nicotine use.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of how nicotine use negatively affects teens’ mental well-being and challenge the idea that nicotine is a solution for managing stress or anxiety.

The “False Fix” campaign is part of the Talk About Tobacco initiative, providing parents, caregivers and educators with information to better understand the connection between nicotine use and teen mental health. The campaign will help adults recognize potential signs of nicotine use, understand the effects and feel more prepared to start conversations with youth.

“Teens turn to nicotine because they believe it can help them manage stress or anxiety, but nicotine products create a cycle that makes those feelings harder to manage,” said Lance Thomas, TSET interim executive director. “False Fix” helps parents, caregivers and educators understand the connection between nicotine use and mental health and prepare them to talk with the teens in their lives.”

The “False Fix” campaign will be on TV and radio stations statewide and include social media content, print and digital ads. To see this campaign and learn more about how to talk to kids about nicotine use, Oklahomans can visit TalkAboutTobacco.com.
