TSET Offers Resources To Help Families Build Healthy Habits Together
This back-to-school season offers families a chance to reset routines with healthier habits. September is also Childhood Obesity Month, and Shape Your Future offers resources to help Oklahoma families add more fruits and vegetables to their meals and get more physical activity.
Shape Your Future is a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET).
Childhood obesity is a significant health concern in Oklahoma, with one in six Oklahoma high school students living with obesity. Establishing healthy habits early, including eating nutritious foods, staying active, drinking water and getting enough sleep, can support children’s health today and lower the risk of chronic diseases later in life.
“Healthy habits don’t have to be complicated. It’s the everyday routines — sharing healthy meals, taking family walks and making time to move — that can have the greatest impact,” said Lance Thomas, TSET’s interim executive director. “Shape Your Future offers resources to help Oklahoma families get started.”
Eating more fruits and vegetables is one of the easiest ways to support overall health. They fuel growing bodies, support energy levels and create balanced meals. Fresh, frozen, canned and dried fruits and vegetables are all nutritious options that can fit into nearly any budget.
Healthy routines don't stop at the dinner table, though. Drinking water, getting enough sleep and making time for physical activity each day are all important parts of supporting a healthy lifestyle for the whole family.
Shape Your Future offers free resources to help families make healthy choices easier, including:
- Simple, budget-friendly recipes featuring fruits and vegetables
- Easy ways to get active, from playing outside to walking together after dinner
- Tips to help families choose water and stay hydrated throughout the day
Whether it’s adding more fruits and vegetables to meals, taking a family walk or creating a consistent bedtime routine, these everyday choices can add up over time. By making healthy choices together, Oklahoma families can support a healthier future.
