The Effects of Marijuana and Other Drugs on Oklahoma Children

This highly informative training will outline the medical marijuana law in Oklahoma, including legalization, established by State Question 788 and subsequent regulation implemented by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act (Unity Bill). The impact of marijuana exposure on children as based on the literature and professional experience at The Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma will be presented and will include prenatal exposure, accidental intoxication, and use of medical marijuana given to children. The impact of other drugs and alcohol including symptoms of intoxication, effect of prenatal exposure, and child maltreatment consequences will be discussed. Upon completion, participants will be able to describe how change in Oklahoma law allows widespread use of marijuana, what is necessary to obtain medical marijuana for children, identify symptoms of marijuana, methamphetamine, and opiate intoxication in children, and describe the impact of substance abuse on child maltreatment.
