This six-hour CLEET continuing education course is designed for Certified Peace Officers and focuses on writing credible, clear, and effective reports. Instruction will be delivered in a lecture format and will cover the full scope of report writing, from where a report truly begins to its completion. Officers will learn that reports often start before direct law enforcement involvement. The course will include guidance on formatting ODIS reports and criminal affidavits, as well as techniques for locating statutory elements of crimes, reviewing jury instructions, and understanding prosecutors’ expectations when reports are submitted for prosecution. A brief overview of search warrants related to cellular telephones will also be provided.
