Telepsychology & Out-of-State Practice

The Oklahoma State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (OSBEP) recommends that non-resident psychologists notify the Board before providing, or planning to provide, psychological services within the State of Oklahoma.

Advance notification helps ensure that services are provided in compliance with Oklahoma law and that the psychologist is practicing within any applicable statutory exemption or authorization.

Limited Practice Exemptions

Under Title 59 O.S. § 1353(9)–(11), Oklahoma law permits limited psychological practice in certain circumstances, including:

  • Nonresident consulting services within statutory limits;
  • Disaster response activities under recognized disaster response authority; and
  • Limited practice by new Oklahoma residents who have submitted an application for licensure and meet statutory requirements.

These exemptions are limited in scope and duration. Any psychological services that exceed the statutory limitations require full licensure by OSBEP before services are provided.

PSYPACT Practice

Psychologists practicing in Oklahoma under the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT) must maintain active and appropriate credentials for the services being provided. This may include:

  • Authorization to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT);
  • Temporary Authorization to Practice (TAP); and
  • A valid E.Passport, as applicable.

Psychologists are responsible for ensuring that their PSYPACT credentials are current and appropriate for the type of service being provided in Oklahoma.

Notice of Intent Requirement

If you anticipate providing psychological services in Oklahoma, please complete the Notice of Intent to Provide Psychological Services form and email it to: boardstaff@psychology.ok.gov

The completed form should be submitted prior to initiating services in Oklahoma.

Board Acknowledgment

After receiving a completed Notice of Intent form, OSBEP will issue acknowledgment correspondence confirming receipt of the notification.

This acknowledgment does not constitute licensure, approval, or authorization to practice beyond the limited exemptions permitted by Oklahoma law.

Responsibility for Compliance

All psychological services provided in Oklahoma must remain within the applicable scope, duration, and notification requirements established by law.

Psychologists remain responsible for compliance with all applicable state and federal laws governing the practice of psychology.

If your service dates, scope of work, or authorization status changes, please notify the Board promptly.
