The ONMVC, in partnership with other state agencies, is warning citizens of a nationwide text message scam targeting Oklahomans by impersonating state agencies and using terms like  "The DMV" or "The Department of Motor Vehicles".

The ONMVC was made aware of fraudulent messages claiming recipients have unpaid traffic violations that must be resolved immediately to avoid penalties. These messages include suspicious links and threats such as license suspension, legal action and negative credit reporting.

These messages are not legitimate. They are part of a broader scam targeting individuals across the country. The senders are not affiliated with any Oklahoma state agency, and targeted phone numbers appear to be chosen at random.

*The next regulalry scheduled meeting for the Oklahoma New Motor Vehicle Commission has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 8th at 10am. A meeting Agenda will be posted at least 24 hours before the meeting.
