The Oklahoma State Archives is the official repository for essential state government records (65 O.S. § 3-102). In conjunction with the Archives and Records Commission, the State Archives appraises, selects, and preserves state government records with enduring historical value and provides access to them for state employees, researchers, and the public.

The Archives also administers a records management program for state agencies that applies efficient and economical management methods to the creation, utilization, maintenance, retention, preservation and disposal of state records (67 O.S. § 6-204). The Archives also supports state government by offering cost-effective storage for state agency records at the State Records Center.

The Oklahoma State Archives preserves the permanent records of state agencies and the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of Oklahoma’s state government. Records range from the 1890s until present, with the bulk being between 1907 and 1980. The collections include governors’ papers, bill files, court cases, minutes, correspondence, annual reports, and publications.
