The National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) was established in 1975 and although it has been updated as much as it can, can no longer support the needs of the American fire service. 2025 will be the last year NFIRS will be used. It is being decomissioned and both it and the data it stores will NO LONGER BE ACCESSIBLE AFTER 2025.

Please confirm your department has incidents stored at the local level for any historical data, records requests, and/or grant applications. Individual incident records are not stored at the state or federal levels. Once NFIRS is shut down, the data cannot be retrieved by anyone at any level.

Please visit the U.S. Fire Administration's site to learn more about the transition from NFIRS to NERIS. - NFIRS Sunset

If a department's incidents are not stored outside of NFIRS, this document can advise how to export incident data from eNFIRS. - Info Sheet Download

HB 1052, requiring all fire departments in the State of Oklahoma to report their incident data through NERIS, will become law on November 1, 2025. The bill also requires reports of fire-related burn injuries and/or death reports to be completed within 48 hours of the incident.

NERIS onboarding is a two-phase process.

1. Log in and verify your department's information. The items you can update include Demographic, Inventory, Services, and Relationship information (items 4-7 of the Onboarding Checklist).

2. Activate your reporting capability
- For Direct Entry:
Once logged in to NERIS, click Helpdesk in the left hand column or in the links at the bottom of the NERIS page. Then click on Request Direct Incident Logging in NERIS. Fill out the requested information and the NERIS team will activate the direct entry capability and send an email confirmation.

- For Departments with a 3rd Party RMS:
Once logged in to NERIS, click on Enrollments in the left hand column. Enter the Client ID you receive from your 3rd Party Vendor. You can begin reporting into NERIS as soon as your 3rd Party Vendor is capable of doing so. The NERIS Integration Enrollment instructions may also help. The list of Integration Partners compatible with NERIS is posted on their website here: Integration Partners | NERIS.

A trial site is available for incident reporting members of Oklahoma fire departments. Users can practice logging in incidents and see the new system. Please email FDreporting@fire.ok.gov to request access.

Integration Partners | NERIS

NERIS has identified software vendors whose products meet the technical standards necessary to integrate with the system. Integration Partners have confirmed their software products meet specific technical standards for API compatibility.

If departments use an Integration Partner, a link can be created within NERIS to the third party. Reporting incidents in the third party system will automatically copy into NERIS without needing to export on a monthly or quarterly basis and email to our office.

The list will be updated as more vendors are awarded the compatibility badge.
