Dr. Andy Young will present this course for emergency service telecommunicators. The course reviews foundational crisis intervention skills and examines responses to critical incidents and crimes in progress, including active shooter events, hostage situations, kidnappings, and barricaded individuals experiencing mental illness or suicidal crisis. Participants will also explore intervention strategies for individuals experiencing mental illness or suicidal crisis, along with general response guidelines for critical incidents. Case examples from the instructor’s experience as a police hostage and crisis negotiator will illustrate key concepts. The course also includes time for skills practice and refinement.
