Minimum Requirements
Must be a United States citizen
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must have a high school diploma or GED
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Must possess a current CLEET certification
• No felony convictions
• No misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude
• Must successfully pass a background investigation and drug screening
• Must successfully complete an MMPI and mental health evaluation
• If previously served in the military, must have received an honorable discharge
• Must be available to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed
• Must demonstrate strong ethics, integrity, and moral character
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a close-knit, community-oriented law enforcement environment
Key Responsibilities
A Peace Officer is responsible for performing general law-enforcement and patrol duties in accordance with Oklahoma law, Binger Police Department policies and procedures, and the direction of department supervisors. Patrol Officers are expected to conduct themselves professionally and perform their duties with the same commitment to public safety, integrity, accountability, and service expected of all Binger Police Department personnel.
The Peace Officer will patrol assigned areas of the Town of Binger to deter and detect criminal activity and will respond to calls for service, emergencies, disturbances, suspicious activity, and other incidents. Duties may include enforcement of state laws and Town of Binger ordinances, traffic enforcement, investigation of motor vehicle crashes, preliminary and follow-up criminal investigations, interviews of victims, witnesses, and suspects, lawful arrests, and other appropriate enforcement actions.
Peace Officers Officers will prepare accurate, thorough, and timely incident, arrest, and investigative reports and will properly collect, preserve, document, and handle evidence. Officers may assist with crime scenes, investigations, prisoner transportation, warrant service, business and residential checks, and other departmental assignments. Officers may also provide assistance and backup to department personnel and other law-enforcement agencies when requested and may provide law-enforcement and security services during special events and community activities.
Peace Officers are expected to safely and responsibly operate department vehicles, radios, and other issued equipment. Officers are responsible for maintaining required certifications and proficiency in applicable law-enforcement skills and are expected to participate in department-provided training and professional development opportunities.
Peace Officers are expected to maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times while representing the Binger Police Department. Officers shall treat members of the public with professionalism, courtesy, dignity, and respect and shall maintain positive working relationships with fellow officers, supervisors, other agencies, businesses, and members of the community.
Peace Officers are expected to follow all department policies, procedures, directives, and lawful orders; exercise sound judgment and discretion; maintain confidentiality concerning department matters, investigations, records, and information obtained through official duties; and properly safeguard department property, equipment, vehicles, and other issued resources. Any loss, damage, policy violation, or other matter requiring supervisory attention shall be promptly reported.
Peace Officers are expected to maintain personal and professional conduct consistent with the standards and reputation of the Binger Police Department and to remain prepared to perform assigned duties when called upon.
Peace Officers shall perform other law-enforcement duties and assignments as directed by the Chief of Police or designated supervisor.
Salary/ Compensation
