| Minimum Requirements |
| • Must be 21-45 years old. • Must be able to pass practical exams, MMPI-2/CPI or related psychological performance test, must pass a comprehensive background investigation; must be subject to other interviews, polygraph, drug test or other exams. • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. • Must not have been convicted of a felony, serious misdemeanor or have pending criminal actions. • Must not be a present or recent user of controlled substances. |
| Key Responsibilities |
| • Patrol assigned area of City and enforce state and federal laws and City ordinances and traffic laws; patrol and examine buildings and residences to detect suspicious conditions and handle situations accordingly. • Direct traffic in congested and emergency areas; report safety hazards; respond to accidents, administer first aid, investigate cause and file accident reports; issue citations to violators of traffic laws. • Respond to crime and accident scenes; search for and preserve evidence; investigate and interview victims, witnesses and potential suspects; apprehend those suspected of crimes; make oral and written reports; provide testimony in court. • Make arrests on criminal and traffic related offenses. Execute search warrants and arrest after obtaining sufficient evidence to arrest. • Assist stranded motorists, provide assistance to those who need aid, comfort to those who are in distress. Determine if a person is a danger to self or others and evaluate the mental stability of the individual. • Respond to general public service calls including domestic disturbances, civil complaints, property control, and related incidents. • Collect, process and photograph evidence using scientific techniques including fingerprints, fibers, blood, and related physical evidence. • Conduct a variety of criminal investigations involving crimes against persons and property, auto theft, white-collar crime, and narcotics; gather evidence and prepare cases for prosecution. • Conduct investigations of private property, non-injury, serious-injury and fatality traffic accidents; conduct traffic accident analyses and general traffic surveys. • Contact and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to the apprehension of offenders and the investigation of offenses. • Maintain contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserve a good relationship with the general public. • Must demonstrate proficiency with firearms and with physical defense techniques to defend self and others. • Serve warrants within the department and with outside agencies; remain current on laws and procedures required for processing warrants. • Investigate juvenile-related crimes including child abuse and juvenile narcotics. • Perform related duties as assigned. |
| Salary/Compensation (if available) |
| Starting base rate is $60,632.00 – $67,849.60 annually (based on experience), plus comprehensive benefits package including family medical and dental insurance, paid vacation, holiday and sick leave, police pension, college tuition reimbursement and incentive pay. Currently, career (non-supervisory) patrol officers top out at $47.88 per hour. |
