Friday, May 01, 2026

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA) is proud to announce Scout Halley as the Aerospace Student of the Month for May 2026. A junior at Putnam City West High School, Halley is being recognized for exceptional dedication, technical skill, and leadership within the Putnam City Aviation program.

Currently enrolled in the Aviation Maintenance Pathway, Halley is committed to mastering aircraft maintenance and avionics. This technical foundation is bolstered by hands-on experience, including job shadowing at Jetset FBO and a recent acceptance into the summer internship program at AAR Corp.

Putnam City West Aviation Instructor Sam Madewell praised Halley’s impact on the program and the broader industry: “We strongly believe that Scout represents the opportunities our program has to offer for students and that they will serve as an inspiration to young women throughout the state in all areas of the Aerospace Industry.”

Beyond the hangar, Halley is a versatile student with a three-year history in theater and a passion for creative arts, including design and sewing. This creative problem-solving is now being applied toward earning a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 remote pilot certification.

Looking toward the future, Halley is considering enlisting in the Air National Guard to further refine maintenance skills while serving the country. Whether pursuing a career in avionics or obtaining a private pilot’s license, Halley remains committed to the Oklahoma aerospace community.

The ODAA salutes Scout Halley’s ambition and contributions to the future of Oklahoma flight.
