GUYMON, Okla. — State and local leaders today celebrated the completion of a new aircraft hangar at Guymon Municipal Airport, marking a significant investment in aviation infrastructure and economic development for the Oklahoma Panhandle.

The 12,000-square-foot transient hangar was developed through a partnership between the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the City of Guymon. The project was funded through ODAA’s Statewide Hangar Program and Airport Construction Program, initiatives designed to address Oklahoma’s growing demand for aircraft storage and support aviation-related business growth statewide.

The facility expands the airport’s ability to accommodate visiting aircraft, business aviation traffic, and visiting operators, while creating new opportunities for revenue generation and economic activity in Texas County and across the region. Guymon Municipal Airport serves as a critical transportation asset for the Oklahoma Panhandle, supporting business travel, agriculture, energy development, and regional commerce.

“Strong airports create strong communities. Every investment we make in Oklahoma’s airport system improves connectivity, supports local businesses, and expands economic opportunity,” said Grayson Ardies, ODAA executive director. “The completion of this hangar is another example of how strategic partnerships are helping communities like Guymon compete, grow, and thrive.”

The hangar project represents a collaborative investment of approximately $2.3 million with $1.26 million from the FAA, $920,000 from the ODAA, and $115,000 from the City of Guymon. Construction began following a groundbreaking ceremony in November 2025.

“For a community like Guymon, our municipal airport is an essential gateway to the Oklahoma Panhandle. This new transient hangar expands our ability to serve pilots and visitors, while providing the infrastructure needed to support continued growth in aviation,” said Guymon City Manager Micheal W. Shannon. “We’re grateful for the partnership of the Federal Aviation Administration and the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics in making this project possible, and we’re excited to see the opportunities it creates for our airport and our community.”

“This project is an investment in Guymon’s future. Our airport plays a critical role in supporting local businesses, agriculture, emergency services, and economic development across the Panhandle. The completion of this hangar demonstrates what can be accomplished through strong partnerships, and we’re proud to celebrate a project that will strengthen our community and serve residents, businesses, and visitors for years to come.” said Guymon Mayor Kim Peterson.

Established in 1949, Guymon Municipal Airport is the largest public airport in the Oklahoma Panhandle and serves approximately 19,000 annual aircraft operations. The airport is home to more than 30 based aircraft and plays an important role in supporting regional transportation and economic development.
