The Oklahoma Tax Commission is excited to announce Shelly Paulk as its newest Commissioner. Appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Oklahoma State Senate, Paulk began her six year term on April 19. Paulk replaces Steve Burrage whose term expired in January.
“The OTC is fortunate to have someone with Shelly’s caliber join our agency,” said Commissioner Clark Jolley of the OTC. “Having worked with her for several years in Oklahoma’s budget development process, I’ve witnessed first-hand her dedication to our state. I’m eager to serve alongside her.”
“Shelly’s years of experience in state government make her a valued asset to the Oklahoma Tax Commission,” said Commissioner Charles Prater of the OTC. “I look forward to working with her and I’m glad to welcome her to the Commission and our agency.”
Paulk began working for the State of Oklahoma in 2006 as a revenue and budget analyst for OMES before being promoted to Deputy Budget Director for Revenue in 2011. Paulk was then promoted to her most recent role as State Budget Director in 2019 before her confirmation as an Oklahoma Tax Commissioner.
Before joining state government, Paulk spent 18 years in the education field. She holds a bachelor’s in business management and ethics from Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City and an MBA in leadership and organizational development from Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond. Shelly and her husband, Jon, have three children and eight grandchildren.
Shelly Paulk is one of three Oklahoma Tax Commissioners. Each commissioner serves a 6-year term, and a seat becomes available every two years. Commissioners must be appointed by the governor and confirmed by the State Senate.
