Description

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is proposing reconstruction and widening of US-77 through Lexington in Cleveland County. Existing US-77 is a two-lane roadway with multiple skewed intersections of local roads, business drives, residential drives, alleyways, and a multi-point intersection with SH-39. The existing annual average daily traffic (AADT) volume on US-77 is approximately 12,000 vehicles per day (vpd). By 2045, volumes are expected to increase to approximately 16,680 vpd, resulting in unacceptable levels of congestion and delay. There have been 40 documented collisions within the project area since 2010, approximately half of which involved injury. Over 80% of the collisions occurred at intersections, with the highest number occurring at the US-77/SH-39 intersection. ODOT has recently tasked a Consultant to look at alternatives for improving US-77 through Lexington and the intersection at SH-39, while taking into consideration construction costs, right-of-way costs and environmental constraints.
