PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT MEETING for US-259
in McCurtain County, OK

  • Date: November 17th, 2015
  • Time: 6:00 PM
  • Location: Idabel Public Library
    103 E. Main Street
    Idabel, OK 74745

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) proposes to improve US-259 from south of Idabel to 2 miles north of the Red River Bridge at the Oklahoma – Texas border. The existing US-259 has narrow shoulders, sharp curves, and an inadequate safety sight distance for motorists that all contribute to a substantial accident history. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and functionality of the US-259 corridor, south of the City of Idabel, in McCurtain County, OK.

ODOT had tasked a Consultant to study several alternatives to improve US-259 while taking into consideration construction cost, right-of-way requirements and environmental constraints. The preferred alignment was selected based on public meeting participation and state and federal agency input. After further evaluation of the costs, right-of-way and environmental impacts, ODOT has made the decision to improve the existing highway alignment. The purpose of this meeting is to inform the public & solicit comments about the Department’s decision to change the preferred alternative for the US-259 corridor.

Additional information about the project and the upcoming meeting can be obtained from the following:
