National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)

What the NEPA Program is About

A national commitment to the environment was formalized through the passage of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969. ODOT’s NEPA Program manages the process that integrates environmental considerations and regulatory requirements into the department's transportation programs, projects, and operations and provides environmental and NEPA documentation.

Importance of the NEPA Program

ODOT's NEPA Program identifies, assesses, manages, and mitigates environmental risks on ODOT projects during early development stages through construction. This program acts as the point of contact during the design process and plays a vital role in maintaining adequate organizational and staff capability and expertise to effectively carry out the provisions of the FHWA/ODOT Programmatic Agreement.
