Importance of Clean Water
The effects of sediment and other pollutants from construction activities on our environment have been demonstrated in numerous studies. Minimizing these effects is an important facet for increasing the quality of life of Oklahoma residents.
Our objectives are to:
- Integrate clean water considerations and regulatory requirements into ODOT’s transportation programs and operations;
- Serve as a resource for our construction and maintenance partners in meeting project environmental commitments;
- Provide technical expertise for stormwater and permit requirements under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) as directed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and
- Liaise with regulatory agencies to streamline the environmental review and permit processes.
ODOT Environmental Field Liaisons
An Environmental Field Liaison is assigned and located in each of ODOT's Field Districts to provide the essential service of ensuring our environmental commitments are kept for active projects across the state. Liaisons inspect sites for stormwater compliance, help assist team efforts with ODOT's Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, and Hazardous Materials programs, and provide critical communication between the Clean Water Program and State regulatory partners.
