Put Some Zing into Spring by Participating in the 35th Annual

Oklahoma TRASH-OFF

Let's make our highways sparkle! Join the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Keep Oklahoma Beautiful in commemorating the 35th annual Oklahoma TRASH-OFF, part of the nationwide three-month Great American Cleanup. This essential event is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, and the Great American Cleanup is open to participants until May 31. By curbing litter, we can pave our way to safer and more scenic interstates and highways.

Individuals, groups and counties are encouraged to join the movement by registering at www.keepoklahomabeautiful.com or by calling 405-286-9141. By participating, volunteers contribute to cleaner communities, safer highways and a cleaner state.

"Let's come together as volunteers and communities by participating in the Oklahoma TRASH-OFF event, working towards a cleaner and brighter Oklahoma. With our collective commitment to environmental stewardship, we can make a difference and bring about long-lasting, positive changes to our communities," said ODOT Beautification Coordinator, Melody Johnson.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation continues to devote nearly $6 million annually to combat litter along state highways, while the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority contributes about $1 million for toll road clean up. Keep Oklahoma Beautiful provides TRASH-OFF supplies and promotional items, including cash grants, trash bags, gloves and water donations. Participants can pick up the necessary supplies from each of the 77 ODOT county maintenance yards.

Safety is a top priority for ODOT, so all participants are reminded to practice safety awareness and keep children supervised during cleanup efforts.

Oklahoma’s Great American Cleanup is sponsored by ODOT, OTA, Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, Keep America Beautiful, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, OG&E, Warren CAT, Waste Management, Lowe’s, and Pepsi.
