June Transportation Commission Meeting

The Oklahoma Transportation Commission will hold its monthly meeting at 11 a.m. Monday,
June 6
in the R.A. Ward Transportation Building, 200 N.E. 21st St. in Oklahoma City. Items to be addressed at the meeting include:

  • Oklahoma Department of Transportation Executive Director Mike Patterson will recap the agency’s two-month long campaign blitz to bring more attention to the dangers faced in highway work zones. He will also discuss legislative issues, including the impact of major budget cuts to transportation in the coming fiscal year
  • The commission is expected to vote on new turnpike locations requested by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority. In accordance with state law, the commission must review and consent to the OTA’s proposed routes to ensure that ODOT has no plans to construct new highways in these areas in the foreseeable future.
  • Commissioners are expected to consider approval of contracts for projects to resurface nearly 10 miles of I-40 in Beckham County and install highway message boards and traffic cameras at five Port of Entry locations at major border crossings in Oklahoma.
  • They will also be asked to vote on approval of an engineering contract for preliminary design work on future reconstruction of I-44 and removal of the Belle Isle bridge in Oklahoma City.

The meeting agenda can be viewed at www.odot.org/meetings. The commission, an eight-member panel appointed by the governor to oversee the state’s transportation development, awards project contracts for road and bridge construction on a monthly basis. The meeting is open to the public.
