As a law enforcement officer, you expect to give commands and ask questions and receive immediate responses. The population with autism spectrum disorder may not be able to respond immediately because of cognitive, physical, or other issues. According to the CDC, the prevalence of autism is increasing rapidly. The CDC now estimates that 1 in 36 children have autism spectrum disorder. With this course, you will obtain knowledge about autism spectrum disorder and ways to handle contacts. Topics covered include what is autism spectrum disorder, recognizing autism spectrum disorder, de-escalation techniques, tantrums vs. meltdowns, interviewing, and more.
