Tactical Medicine and Active Killing Events - Survival and Control in the Midst of Chaos

This event has passed.

Description

This two-day hands-on training event will be packed with essential information to leave the Patrol Officer with a sharpened mindset relating to Tactical Medicine, Officer Survival, and Active Assailant/Shooter Events, and what to mentally expect if faced with an active shooter event. We will pack 20 hours of CLEET Continuing Education and 2 hours of CLEET Approved Mental Health Credit in the two days. Those attending should come dressed for a normal 10-hour workday, if there is such a thing as a “normal” workday. Day one will consist of an Introduction to Tactical Medicine and an Introduction to Officer Survival Techniques. You will learn appropriate tourniquet application skills, wound packing skills, and chest seal application for life saving in potential casualty events. Classroom instruction in the morning on day one will cover Federal and State Use of Deadly Force laws, court rulings, and case law. We will have a strong focus establishing a mindset of immediate entry and eliminating threats rapidly, preventing the loss of more lives in an active killing event. Officers will learn they must stop the killing before they can stop the dying. Officers will be introduced to the Incident Command System and given ideas and concepts for managing resources in a chaotic life altering situation. The afternoon of day one, and the entire second day will focus on Live Force-on-Force Roleplay. This will cause the student to become immersed in the scenarios leading to managing an increased heart rate, controlling their breathing, and managing emotional levels as they are exposed to potentially dangerous/deadly situations. Officers will learn during this training every life is sacred and must be valued, however, during an active killing event the solo officer must breach the structure, bypass wounded, and eliminate the threat immediately upon arrival to protect the innocent. Both training days will force attendees to focus on, and apply concepts presented during the morning of the first day. We will primarily center on the acronyms: LCAN, SIM, WIN, and BATH. Officers will receive vague radio dispatch calls for service as they respond to training scenarios like how the event would more than likely unfold in an actual incident. Officers will be expected/required to provide accurate radio transmissions and needs to a staged dispatch all while processing scenarios introduced to them. At the conclusion on day two we will introduce a discussion centered on reunification of those individuals who became victims or witnesses to an active assailant/killing event. We will discuss needed elements of reunification points as well as concepts to aid in the death notification of victims fatally injured. Law Enforcement and Senior Administration of schools, churches or event centers only have one opportunity to tell a family their loved one is never coming home again, it is critical to get this correct.
