Service Description
This 2 days Instructor course is designed to provide students with a basic and advance understanding of using a red dot sight on a handgun. This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills required to utilize the sighting system to demonstrate fundamentals in marksmanship and handgun manipulation in the field.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of their individual Department’s Use of Force/Firearms Policy.
2. Identify the tactical analysis key points related to tactical firearms as reported in FBI Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA) Studies (hereby incorporated by reference).
3. Demonstrate a minimum standard of tactical handgun proficiency with every technique, exercise, and course-of- fire, to include:
4. Judgment and Decision-Making
A. Firearms Safety
B. Fundamentals of Marksmanship
C. Safe Drawing and Presenting Firearms
D. Shoot/No Shoot
E. Speed, Accuracy and Effectiveness under stress and movement.
F. Shot Placement: Combat Effectiveness
5. Malfunctions Clearing
6. Loading/Reloading
Student Equipment Requirements:
• 500 rounds pistol ammunition (FMJ OK must be as close to duty ammo weight as possible)
• Service Pistol w/minimum of three (3) pistol magazines
• Complete Duty Belt
• Personal Protective Equipment (eye & hearing)
• Gun cleaning kit for weapon system
• Note taking ( Paper, Laptop, Pen)
Student Performance Objectives:
● State and understand the mission of the RDS.
● State the tactical difference between iron sights and RDS.
● Describe the proper operation and manipulation of the duty weapon
● Demonstrate dry and live fire application drills.
● Demonstrate immediate action clearance procedures.
● Demonstrate an overall knowledge of course and subject matter.
Testing Procedures:
● Minimum score of 85% for all live fire scored drills & qualification while maintaining, 100% round accountability.
● Successfully run assigned live fire course assignments
