Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is a course designed to give members of the public key skills to help an adolescent who is developing a mental health or substance use challenge. YMHFA is an evidence-based training that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges. Through listening, reassurance, support and resources, Youth Mental Health First Aiders talk with young people experiencing mental health and substance use challenges and help shine a light on a path forward. YMHFAiders learn skills application in early, worsening and crisis situations, including suicidal crisis and overdose.
