Minimum Requirements
Must pass the POSSE test (at applicant’s expense) and a physical agility test consisting of pushups, sit-ups, and a 1-mile run. Must have obtained a high school diploma or GED certificate. Must possess a valid Class D Driver License and/or ability to obtain any license needed to perform the essential functions of the job.
Key Responsibilities
Inspects the assigned patrol vehicle prior to beginning of shift to include checking under all seats, front and back, and all compartments where the public or incarcerated suspects may have access.
Operates the assigned patrol vehicle in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Operates assigned patrol vehicle for extended periods of time in all environmental conditions and, on occasion, operates the vehicle at high speeds and in congested traffic or inclement weather conditions.
Patrols assigned areas to include all public and private businesses and residences, parking lots, surface streets and highways, enforcing all federal, tribal, state, and local laws or ordinances.
Directs vehicle traffic, enforces traffic laws, directs pedestrian traffic, investigates road damage, removes hazards from the roadway, issues citations, explains legal procedure, checks vehicle plates, registration, and other required documents.
Investigates traffic crashes by determining causes, protects, processes, and stores all physical evidence related to a specific incident, requests the necessary emergency equipment required at the scene, takes precautions at an accident scene by creating detours or working traffic control to reduce the possibility of other crashes.
Works alcohol or drug related offenses.
Visits the scenes of crimes and vehicle crashes, searches for and preserves evidence, investigates and interviews witnesses, and potential suspects, apprehending those suspected of crimes.
Secures and protects the scene of a crime and the immediate area surrounding the crime scene so that no evidence is disturbed.
Performs functions which require the officer to interview suspects, witnesses, and victims. Makes decisions regarding if a crime has been committed.
Files charges with the appropriate federal, state, municipal, or tribal prosecutors.
Ensure complete paperwork is submitted to prosecutors to enable them to file appropriate charges.
Provides deposition or court testimony on incidents where the officer may have direct knowledge or information.
Performs all duties and functions of a law enforcement officer.
Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
