This position falls under the Tribal Police Department for the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. The Reserve Tribal Officer shall be responsible for preventive patrol, crime prevention activities, response to calls for service, preliminary investigation of crimes and incidents, enforcement of Federal, State, and Tribal laws, the apprehension of offenders, traffic direction and control, traffic incident investigations, traffic law enforcement, maintenance of order, emergency services and other law enforcement duties as may be required.

Essential Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities

Tasks are as follows, but not limited to:

  • Patrol assigned district (Pottawatomie, Lincoln, or Oklahoma County), or as a rover, and shall have primary responsibility for the area where he/she is assigned, unless unavailable.
  • Required to be familiar with the geography on Jurisdictional Boundaries of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma, and the patrol area to which he/she is assigned. Patrol district assignments shall be rotated on a daily basis, when possible, to allow patrol officers to become familiar with all areas of the Tribe’s Jurisdictional Boundaries.
  • Required to be familiar with the policies and procedures of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma Tribal Police Department and adhere to the same.
  • When delegated to do so, train Patrol Officers in training.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED

Additional Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain a HIGH level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Able to work under high stress.
  • Must have valid Oklahoma drivers’ license.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time performing repetitive work at the computer. Some bending, stretching, and lifting.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • English language necessary and Kickapoo language a plus.
  • Must possess the ability to work responsively with effective communication skills both written and oral.

Language Skills:

Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Knowledge of the Kickapoo language is preferred but not required.

Reasoning Ability:

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form. With ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to demonstrate their US work authorization during the employment verification

process

  • Complete the Indian Police Academy and/or CLEET Basic Officer Certification required 
  • Required to pass a criminal background investigation and drug/alcohol test

Reserve Tribal Officers must work 8 hours per month and may be compensated.
