Our Mission Statement

To protect the public by promoting and enforcing laws and regulations which govern the practice of Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Marital and Family Therapists, and Licensed Behavioral Practitioners.

The below information is published Pursuant to 74 O.S. § 3106.4, the Oklahoma State Board of Behavioral Health Licensure (BBHL) collects and stores the following personally identifiable data:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Social Security Number
  • Alien Registration Number
  • Employer or taxpayer identification number
  • Educational Records
  • Employment Information

All personally identifiable data is stored on secure OMES servers, maintained by OMES. (OMES- State of Oklahoma Office of Management Enterprise Systems). This data is shared with the Oklahoma Tax Commission, and upon written request, BBHL will release qualifying data in accordance with the terms of the Oklahoma Open Records Act.


Response time deadlines

Provided below are deadlines for Agency staff to respond to a request — not deadlines for the request to be approved. A response could be "we got it, still reviewing" rather than a final yes.

  • Evaluations of Supervised Experience — 30 days
  • License Renewals — 3 days
  • New Applications — 7 days (but if the Board itself needs to review it, that can take up to 8 weeks)
  • New Supervisor Applications — 7 days
  • Out-of-State Verification Requests — 30 days
  • Reactivation/Inactivation Requests — 7 days
  • Supervision Agreements — 7 days

New licensing process (effective Dec 5, 2025)

The Board changed how licenses get issued. Now, staff can verify on their own that someone has met all the requirements and issue the license directly — it doesn't have to wait for a full Board meeting first.

  • Once you're asked for the certification fee and you pay it, allow up to 7 business days for staff to process payment and issue your license.
  • Every license issued this way still gets formally approved ("ratified") by the full Board later, at one of their upcoming meetings — but that happens after your license has been issued.
