Exam Candidates

A Standard Route Exam Candidate is one who has a NAAB-, LAAB-, OR CIDA-accredited degree and has begun the experience required by NCARB, CLARB, or CIDQ.

A Standard Route Exam Candidate can apply to begin testing directly with NCARB, CLARB, or CIDQ.

An Equivalent Standards Exam Candidate is either a person who has a Bachelor's Degree that is not accredited and experience working under a licensed professional, OR is a person who does not have a Bachelor's Degree but has at least ten years of experience working under a licensed professional.

An Equivalent Standards Exam Candidate is required to apply with this Board for approval to begin testing, must have already established an experience record with NCARB or CLARB, and must fill out the Board's work reference form to document past work experience(Architects, Landscape Architects); for Licensed Interior Designers, complete the Board's work reference form.

Fee for Low-Income Individual:
Upon presentation of satisfactory evidence that an applicant is a low-income individual, the Board will grant a one-time, one-year waiver of any fees associated with the license or registration. To learn more about it, please contact the Board office.
