340:105-10-78. Food stamp benefit assistance for project participants

(a) Policy.  Each nutrition project takes all necessary steps to ensure the maximum number of older persons within the project area benefit from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) SNAP as members of households certified for such assistance under USDA regulations.   • 1

(b) Authority.  The authority for this Section is Section 202(a)(17) of the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended and Title 45 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 1321.11.

The nutrition project:

(1) offers assistance in obtaining Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to each participant at the time of intake;

(2) follows through with assisting those participants who desire to apply for SNAP benefits, such as contacting local, central, or online Oklahoma Human Services office for eligibility requirements, and assisting participants in securing appropriate written verification of income;

(3) provides the opportunity for participants to use SNAP benefits as their contribution toward the cost of the meal; and

(4) ensures that all provisions related to the use and handling of SNAP benefits, as prescribed by the state and local agency authorized to operate the program, are met.
