Office of Inspector General

What We Do

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) serves as the law enforcement arm of Oklahoma Human Services, with a unified mission to prevent, detect, and investigate fraud, waste, and abuse while strengthening the efficiency, integrity, and accountability of agency operations. Through the combined efforts of commissioned law enforcement agents, specialized investigators, and data analysts, OIG protects taxpayer resources, safeguards vulnerable Oklahomans, and promotes the integrity of the programs administered by Oklahoma Human Services.

OIG investigates criminal and administrative violations involving Oklahoma Human Services and its programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), child care assistance, energy assistance, and Medicaid recipient fraud. Commissioned agents conduct complex investigations, serve warrants, collect and preserve evidence, and make arrests when appropriate, ensuring cases are pursued through the criminal justice process and responsible parties are held accountable.

Specialized staff provide additional oversight of child care programs by investigating allegations of fraud and ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. OIG also uses the Public Assistance Reporting Information System (PARIS) to identify potential duplicate participation in public assistance programs across state lines. Through interstate data matching and auditing, OIG identifies improper SNAP participation and establishes overpayments for recovery.

Technology and data-driven strategies further strengthen these efforts. Digital audits help identify systemic risks, detect irregularities, and preserve critical electronic evidence. OIG also conducts streamlined fingerprint-based and name-based background screenings to support safe environments for child placement and licensing, including screenings for providers, families, guardianships, and agency employees.
