People, Inc. Group Home
People Incorporated operates a 16 bed Level E group home for males in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. People Inc., in partnership with the juvenile justice system provides services designed to enhance recovery and wellness and keep the individual from re-offending and/or being incarcerated.
Participants are adjudicated males generally between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. People Inc. provides a safe, stable, secure, predictable and highly structured environment for youth in custody of the Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA).
Intensive therapeutic interventions are utilized to guide participants into a new way of thinking, which allows them to avoid criminogenic behaviors. The therapeutic recovery-oriented treatment process addresses participants’ severe emotional problems which are caused by trauma, abuse, neglect and abandonment, to name a few. By reducing the symptoms of the problem and identifying and treating the underlying causes, participants are helped to enhance healthy functioning and promote recovery, create healthy families and productive citizens.
As a treatment focused program, participants receive services such as individual and group therapies, family therapy, social skills, basic living skills, substance abuse prevention, behavior enhancement, recreation, education, prevention and Narcotics Anonymous.
Teaching structure and routine in the milieu, participants can display a strong resistance to change, which is linked to deep rooted emotional issues. Staff are trained in the therapeutic Handle with Care behavior management system to de-escalate participants and provide a safe environment for all involved.
A vital part of the program is staff role-modeling. In an effort to create lasting change, staff demonstrate appropriate communication, respect and a healthy living environment. Participants see what stability should look like in the home, which gives them hope to have a successful life outside of placement.
