Families are Welcome at OJA

OJA welcomes family engagement at all points of OJA contact, from the initial referral to case closure and everything in between. OJA’s vision statement is that “all Oklahoma youth and families have the resources and supports they need to reach their full potential.” For this vision to be accomplished, we need your help. You are the expert in your own family, and we will do our best work with you being involved.

Family Engagement Overview

The Oklahoma Juvenile Affairs Office (OJA) recognizes families' vital role in youth's well-being, growth, and success. We are committed to fostering strong partnerships with families and caregivers to ensure that every young person in our care thrives.

Family engagement is a cornerstone of our work, especially for youth in placement facilities such as group homes, secure care, and other residential programs. We understand that navigating these circumstances can be challenging, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

Families provide stability, love, and support for youth to build resilience and achieve their goals. Research shows that outcomes improve dramatically when families are actively involved in a young person’s care and rehabilitation. Working together can help youth reintegrate into their communities and create a brighter future.

How We Support Families

At OJA, we offer a wide range of services and resources designed to empower and involve families:

• Family-Centered Services: We develop individualized care plans that respect each family's strengths and needs. We offer therapeutic services that focus on building and strengthening familial bonds.

• Regular Communication: We encourage open and ongoing communication between families, youth, and our JSU and placement staff to ensure everyone is informed and engaged.

• Visitation Support: We facilitate family visits and provide resources to help maintain and strengthen family bonds.

• Advocacy and Resources: We connect families to community resources, advocacy support, and other tools to help them remain actively involved and build their bond as a family.

Whether you are attending family meetings, participating in therapy sessions, or advocating for your child, we are here to support and guide you.
