OJA Therapy Dog Zoey Touches Lives and Spreads Joy During National Pet Month and Beyond
OKLAHOMA CITY, MAY 21, 2024 – May is National Pet Month and one pet exceptionally worthy of a spotlight this month is Zoey, the Office of Juvenile Affairs’ (OJA) beloved therapy dog. She has been making a significant impact since she was adopted by the Miller family as a puppy. Taking on the role of replacing the Miller’s 15-year-old pet, who sadly crossed the rainbow bridge after battling congestive heart failure, Zoey had big paws to fill right from the start. However, Zoey embraced her responsibilities and quickly found her calling in serving others, just like her owner, OJA Deputy Director Carol Miller.
Zoey's journey as a certified therapy dog began early on. Upon meeting the minimum age requirement of one year, Zoey earned her certification as a therapy dog and embarked on a mission to bring happiness wherever she went.
In 2019, Zoey secured the job of therapy dog for the OJA state office. It did not take long for Zoey to become a favorite among staff, as she made her rounds, wagging her tail and bringing smiles to everyone's faces. Her presence had a remarkable effect on the atmosphere of the office, creating a sense of contagious joy and positivity.
However, Zoey's ambitions did not stop there. She soon realized her potential to touch an even wider audience. She began visiting secure-care facilities, engaging with residents in activities like fetch, tag, and even ping pong. Her infectious enthusiasm for any type of ball never failed to make residents laugh, bringing moments of pure joy into their lives.
Since joining the OJA team, Zoey has made an incredible impact on numerous lives. Whether it is through her playful interactions, warm cuddles, or a simple wag of her tail, she has the extraordinary ability to brighten the day of anyone she encounters. Zoey's dedication to spreading love and affection has made OJA a better place.
As Zoey continues to work her magic as a therapy dog, her story serves as a reminder of the profound difference one small furry friend can make. Her legacy will undoubtedly inspire others to follow in her pawprints, bringing comfort and hope to everyone she meets.
