OKLAHOMA CITY, MAY 29, 2024—Jeffrey Cartmell was confirmed by the Oklahoma Senate as the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) this morning. Cartmell, who was appointed to the position in late fall of 2023 by Governor Stitt, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role.

Cartmell's dedication and commitment to public service have been evident throughout his career. Prior to his appointment at OJA, Cartmell served as Counsel to former Secretary of State Brian Bingman and as a Senior Advisor to Governor Kevin Stitt. In these positions, he provided strategic, legal, and policy counsel to the Governor, Secretary Bingman, and other senior-level administration officials.

Cartmell's experience extends beyond the Executive branch. Between 2017 and 2019, he worked as an associate attorney at Lytle Soule & Curlee, a prominent law firm in Oklahoma. Prior to that, he served as a division director within the Office of Management and Enterprise Services for two years.

A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Cartmell holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Writing and a Juris Doctorate. In recognition of his legal acumen, he became an adjunct professor of law at his alma mater in 2021, teaching a seminar course on government law.

Cartmell's track record of success and his long-standing commitment to public service make him the ideal person for this demanding position. OJA plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of young people in the state and with Jeffrey Cartmell at the helm, the agency is well-positioned to continue its important work and make a lasting difference in the lives of Oklahoma's youth.
