Hazardous Materials
What the Hazardous Materials Program is About
ODOT's Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Program exists to help protect human and environmental health during all aspects and phases of transportation activities. This team begins working behind the scenes before ODOT breaks ground and support continues beyond project completion. The HazMat Program identifies, assesses, manages, and mitigates hazardous or solid waste risk, while helping to ensure the department follows all applicable federal and state laws pertaining to health, safety, and the environment.
Additionally, the Hazardous Materials Program develops best management practices (BMPs) and provides compliance support for ODOT facility and fleet operations, as needed.
