Welcome to the Grant County Health Department.

We are pleased that you have chosen to learn more about what Public Health is, what it does, and the services we offer.

Often times, a health department is viewed as a place where people who cannot afford traditional health care receive services. In actuality, the services we provide are not what you would receive from a primary care physician, but instead are Public Health programs that serve the needs of people from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. While many of our services are available to everyone, some do have eligibility requirements.

Today’s society faces many challenges that impact the health status of our citizens, including obesity, lack of physical activity, tobacco use, mental illness, poverty, as well as real and perceived barriers to accessing adequate health care. Public Health’s mission is to provide programs and services that work to address these emerging issues. Examples of the programs offered by your county health department include Adult and Children’s Immunizations,

Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC), Family Planning, Child Guidance, Children First Program, Consumer Protection, Disease Surveillance and Investigation, HIV/STD, and Health Education and Promotion. These programs focus on preventing disease and injury, promoting healthy behaviors and ensuring conditions in which our citizens can be healthy.

We have free interpreters available at no charge to our clients through a telephone interpreter.

Grant County Health Department is a proud participant in the Reach out and Read program, increasing the literacy of children.

Grant County Health Department also strives to ensure that our county is prepared for health related emergencies

and/or catastrophic health events. Public Health preparedness plans are developed with support and assistance from local municipalities, county government, emergency management professionals, medical providers, hospitals, police, fire, EMS, school officials, tribal officials and service agencies such as the Department of Human Services, American Red Cross, and Salvation Army, to name only a few. Together, we work to develop and implement plans to ensure that Grant County is prepared for any Public Health emergency that might arise.
